Suburbia:
Suburbia refers to residential areas situated on the outskirts of urban centers, characterized by a mix of single-family homes, often with yards, and commercial or recreational spaces. Suburban communities are typically more residential and less densely populated than urban areas, offering a quieter and more family-oriented living environment.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work focuses on suburb neighborhoods and how the mundane and lack of hustle and bustle becomes the norm. Being exposed to the commotion and energy of the “Loop” in Chicago three times a week and then commuting back to the calm suburbs puts into perspective the two ends of the lifestyle spectrum. With the city you have people on every corner of the block waiting for the cross signal, you have cars constantly flowing through like a non-stop stream. Meanwhile back in the suburbs beautiful playgrounds sit empty, people really just stay connected to their yards and homes, vast parking lots that span around. The repetitive and mundane lifestyle set in these beautiful neighborhoods is what I would like to convey to the viewer.
